Bowen Technique

This simple but powerful therapy was founded in Australia by the late Tom Bowen, who discovered that making small and gentle movements over certain muscles and tissue generated an integrated healing response.  It is suitable for the young and old alike and stunning results can often be gained after only a few treatments.  For further information, please follow this link.

What to Expect

It is most suitable to wear loose, light clothing so that treatment can take place without undressing.   After a consultation you will lie down on the couch and I will carry out a series of tiny rolling moves on various points of the body, such as either side of the spine, on the hips and behind the knees etc.  I will leave the room for a few minutes at a time between each set of moves - the reason for this is to allow your body to take in the treatment and react without any distractions.  This is a very important aspect to the Bowen treatment - your body totally relaxes and carries out its own healing over the following 7-10 days.

How Long?

Different moves will be carried out according to the type of problems being treated and a session will last between 30 minutes and one hour.

How Many?

Usually we recommend a series of three treatments spaced 7 - 10 days apart although you may find you need only one session or continue to have ongoing treatments over a longer period.  This will be determined as we see how your body is reacting.  We are allowing the body to undertake its own repair and must watch to see what is happening.  This is a holistic form of treatment and often people find they are feeling better in themselves and able to cope better with problems.

What Does It Treat?

A wide range of problems can be treated:-

  • Muscular/skeletal disorders such as Frozen Shoulder/Lower Back Pain
  • Asthma
  • Migraine
  • Chronic Fatigue/ME
  • Sports Injuries (often leading to improved performance)
  • IBS
  • Skin complaints
  • Knee, ankle, elbow complaints

Aftercare

As a way of ensuring the best possible outcome you need to drink plenty of water. Avoid sitting still for more than half an hour at a time for the remaining day of treatment and take note of any changes which occur before your next appointment.
